Good Quality Applications Built With Delphi – Delphi.

I’m often asked why I develop software with Delphi and not move to a “modern” language like the bulky and shitty .NET framework or such. Most people believe Delphi is an old product of the 90’s which isn’t used anymore. While it’s true that its use had dimishined after the .net fiasco, users of the old mighty version 7 are migrating to 2007 and now 2009 and it’s getting some focus again.

Delphi keeps evolving and a new version just came out last month. The native compiled code is as fast as a C++ application.

Here are some very well known applications developed with it: ( a few that I recognize out of hundreds )

  • Ad-Aware
  • KMPlayer
  • Auslogics Disk Defrag
  • MYSQL Admin
  • Spybot Search & Destroy
  • Inno Setup
  • SKYPE (sold for $2.6 Billion)
  • Winace archiver
  • AIMP2
  • BS Player
  • WINRAR
  • CloneCD
  • Zoom Player
  • Dev-C++
  • XVI32
  • Top Style Pro
  • Partition Magic
  • DynDNS Updater
  • PE Explorer
  • Resource Hacker
  • PortableApps
  • Magic ISO
  • ImgBurn
  • AudioGrabber
  • Goldwave
  • Easy CD-DA Extractor

don’t worry, LISP is from 1958 and is still a good tool.

also take a look at Scala(.net and JVM) and F#(.net)
