DailyTech – Clubbing Goes Green
The new club employs a variety of measures to cut energy use and carbon emissions by 30 percent and water use by 50 percent compared to similar clubs. In order to accomplish the savings and stick to its green theme, the club employs a broad variety of measures.
Among the most attractive elements is the dance floor which generates power when danced upon. Typically a club uses a lot of electricity in lighting the dance floor. WATT’s dancers power the club’s disco lights with their dance moves, and the more power they generate the wilder the light show gets. A prominent power meter helps to whip patrons into a dancing frenzy.

BBC NEWS | UK | ‘We will be able to live to 1,000’
Life expectancy is increasing in the developed world. But Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey believes it will soon extend dramatically to 1,000. Here, he explains why.
Ageing is a physical phenomenon happening to our bodies, so at some point in the future, as medicine becomes more and more powerful, we will inevitably be able to address ageing just as effectively as we address many diseases today.

Ananova – Dolphin speedboat makes a splash
The Seabreacher can glide on top or below water at high speed – and it has enough power to soar out of the water and fly through the air and perform stunts.
The two-man £30,000 craft has been designed to mimic the shape of a dolphin and self-rights whenever it splashes down.
The mini-submarine has a top speed of 45mph over the surface of the water and half that when it dives under.

Rocket Scientists Say We’ll Never Reach the Stars
At a recent conference, rocket scientists from NASA, the U.S. Air Force and academia doused humanity’s interstellar dreams in cold reality. The scientists, presenting at the Joint Propulsion Conference in Hartford, Connecticut, analyzed many of the designs for advanced propulsion that others have proposed for interstellar travel. The calculations show that, even using the most theoretical of technologies, reaching the nearest star in a human lifetime is nearly impossible.

Fermilab physicists discover ‘doubly strange’ particle
Batavia, Ill. – Physicists of the DZero experiment at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory have discovered a new particle made of three quarks, the Omega-sub-b (?b). The particle contains two strange quarks and a bottom quark (s-s-b). It is an exotic relative of the much more common proton and weighs about six times the proton mass.
