Tilera Launches 64-Core Embedded Processor

The TILE64 processor contains 64 full-featured, programmable cores and, according to Tilera, delivers 10 times the performance and 30 times the performance-per-watt of the Intel dual-core Xeon; and 40 times the performance of the leading Texas Instruments DSP. Initial target markets for the TILE64 processor include the embedded networking and digital multimedia markets.

Fraunhofer Institute Powers Electronics With Body Heat

The researchers were able to construct a method of turning body heat into electricity using the same principal as thermoelectric generators (TEG) made from semi-conductor elements. TEGs extract electricity from the temperature difference between a hot and cold environment.

A team of international astronomers recently discovered the largest known planet orbiting a star outside of the Earth’s solar system. A team utilizing the Transatlantic Exoplanet Survey, or TrES, first spotted the large planet in 2006, but waited for confirmation from several universities.
